Chevron U-PAK-IT is dedicated to supporting programs that have a positive impact on our community and the environment. We are proud to be a sponsor of DART in Ruston, which provides substance abuse treatment and rehabilitation services to individuals in our community. DART's mission is to help people overcome addiction and lead productive and fulfilling lives, and we are inspired by their dedication to making a difference in the lives of the people they serve.
DART, Domestoc Abuse Resistance Team, an organization that was established in 1994, was a much-needed solution for local families who suffered from abuse, fear, and trauma at home. Prior to its founding, the Ruston, LA Mayor’s Commission for Women had been working with donated resources for several years to address this problem, but statistics from local law enforcement indicated that domestic violence was an escalating issue in the community. DART's mission was to provide assistance to keep families safe, starting with one full-time and one part-time employee. A dynamic board of directors and a dedicated group of volunteers worked alongside the employees, sharing responsibilities.
The organization's first shelter could accommodate eight individuals in a large back room of the building, with the administrative offices located at the front. Over the years, DART received additional funding and employed more individuals. In 2001, the agency acquired a larger shelter with separate administrative offices in the downtown area of Ruston. The new shelter can now provide accommodations for up to twelve people and features four distinct bedrooms for men, women, and their children. DART was able to raise funds to build a children's building on the shelter property in 2015. This facility is currently utilized for DART's weekly children's group as well as other special events.
We cherish our relationship with DART and are inspired by their dedication to helping individuals overcome addiction and build a better future for themselves and their families. Through our sponsorship, we hope to contribute to their mission and make a positive impact on the lives of the people they serve.
